A visit to the Coalport Tile Museum by Class 2 pupils in 2009 led to some outstanding creativity, with each pupil getting the chance to make and decorate their own tile.
On this and the next page are shown a selection of them.
Below, Pippa and Jemima explain how they made them...
How we made our tiles
First we chose our design and drew it on paper.
Then we got a tile and some carbon paper then transferred our design onto our tile.
We next used a clay pouch to go over the lines on the design we had chosen.
Then we went to a chart on the wall which told us the different colours that we could and couldn’t use and chose our colours.
We then painted the tiles with our chosen colours, the paints didn’t look at all what they would look like after they had been fired in the kiln.
Finally after two weeks we got the tiles and they look great!
As part of their ICT and literacy activities last year, pupils in Class 2 took part in a collaborative “Web Play” project, linking up with a school in Los Angeles (USA) and exchanging short dramas linked via digital video recordings and the Internet.
NB: The file is large (4+ Mb) and will require RealPlayer or Apple QuickTime to view it
For 2009-10 links have been established with schools in Pakistan.
As part of their work, Class 2 has produced some pod-cast recordings and designed some leaflets to show different aspects of school life and work at Maesbury.
Linked together to form a set of web-pages, the material has been sent to the Pakistan schools and is now available to view here. Make sure your speakers are switched on!
